越国曾在古称会稽的浙江绍兴建都。浙江考古工作者从2021年起对绍兴市越城区的两处越文化遗址进行发掘。考古发现大大改写了越国物质文化史，为开展越国都城考古提供了重要依据。
这两处遗址分别是大湖头遗址和南山遗址。它们在考古前置勘探中被发现，是典型的越国文化遗址，主体文化堆积均为东周时期。
大湖头遗址是一处完整的聚落遗址，已经发现500多处遗迹，包括建筑基址、灰坑、灰沟、水井等等。一处灰坑出土了3件原始瓷錞于和6件原始瓷句鑃。錞于形如圆筒，常与鼓搭配，在战场上指挥军队进退，句鑃则与编钟相似，两者一般为青铜材质。考古负责人浙江省文物考古研究所游晓蕾馆员说，这是首次在越文化遗址中出土成组乐器。
